The mental health apps are exploding. They reached $200M in revenue (out of $2.1B meditation market). If you do it without professional help at the beginning you may get something but it is not very effective. In most cases a professional should build for you a program that fits your personal needs. Over time your needs change and you may need a different program. It is a good idea to practice by your own but it is very effective when you have a therapist that understands your needs and build for you a custom program and change it over time.
